Watch an orca ram a sunfish so hard that the fish explodes

Orcas were filmed ramming giant sunfish (molas) so hard the fish fragmented—videos from Baja California in 2024–25 captured the episodes.
The attacks looked coordinated: one whale held the fish while another slammed into it, producing pieces that juveniles grabbed.
Scientists aren’t sure whether it’s a feeding strategy to share food and bond or simply play—either way, it’s a striking new behavior.
