Chimpanzees once used for vaccine research get health checks as part of long-term care

Chimpanzees once used in hepatitis B vaccine experiments in Liberia are now living at a sanctuary and have just received head-to-toe health checks.
Veterinarians performed dental cleanings, X‑rays, blood tests, booster shots and nail trims to assess long-term health and tailor care for aging chimps.
Hundreds were involved in the research decades ago; about 60 now live on mangrove islands where the sanctuary is giving them a second chance.
