Philippines, Vietnam upgrade ties, say South China Sea peace 'non-negotiable'

The Philippines and Vietnam upgraded ties to an enhanced strategic partnership, pledging deeper political and defence cooperation.
Both leaders stressed a shared, non‑negotiable commitment to peace and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, grounded in international law.
They signed cooperation deals (defence, tech, tourism, education), agreed closer coordination on security and food security—Vietnam is the Philippines' top rice supplier—and their coast guards held joint exercises.
