Residents in eastern Congo cling to hope as a new Ebola treatment trial begins

Researchers have started trials in Bunia testing experimental treatments (remdesivir and an antibody, MBP134) against the rare Bundibugyo Ebola strain as WHO enrolls the first patient.
Local residents and survivors express renewed hope and willingness to volunteer, seeing the study as a possible “light at the end of the tunnel.”
Response efforts are hampered by community mistrust, violence, overcrowded treatment centers and many deaths occurring outside health facilities.
