US says China trying to discourage states, businesses from engaging with Taiwan

U.S. State, Agriculture and Commerce departments warned governors and business leaders that Chinese diplomats are contacting them to discourage engagement with Taiwan and often misrepresent U.S. policy, and advised reporting such pressure to the State Department.
The letters encourage expanding ties with Taiwan, calling it a vital partner and key player in global trade—and note the U.S. remains Taiwan's most important international backer despite no formal diplomatic ties.
China strongly opposes any official U.S.-Taiwan interactions and urged restraint, while Taiwan welcomed the U.S. show of support.
