Solar farm 'supplied whole hospital site over summer'

  • A new solar farm has been powering the entire New Cross Hospital site during recent sunny periods and supplied roughly 75% of its electricity between April 2025 and March.
  • The project is expected to save the trust an estimated £15–20m over 20 years, cut about 1,450 tonnes of CO2 a year and reduce reliance on the national grid.
  • Built on a former landfill and about the size of 22 football pitches, it was developed as a partnership between the NHS trust, City of Wolverhampton Council and Vital Energi.
