Timmy, Germany's humpback whale, likely lived for only 5 days after controversial rescue effort

The humpback nicknamed “Timmy” (also called “Hope”) captured Germany’s attention after a dramatic rescue attempt — it was moved by barge May 2 and found dead off Anholt on May 14.
Tracking data suggests it likely lived about five days after the final attempt, swimming roughly 215 km (~134 miles) and drifting back toward the Baltic; the exact cause of death remains unclear.
Autopsy found no signs of injury or entanglement and revealed the whale was female; some remains will be made into biodiesel and some bones will go to a Danish museum.
