Pubs, hotels and gyms in Wales to get 30% business rates cut

Wales will cut business rates for pubs, hotels, cinemas, gyms and other hospitality/leisure venues by 30% from April 2027 (for properties with a rateable value under £51,000), replacing the current 15% temporary discount.
The cut is paid for by a small rise in rates on the highest‑value properties so local authority funding is maintained — and it follows England’s earlier 20% cut for some venues.
Industry groups welcomed the move but say savings are modest (one landlord estimated about £3,000 a year) and VAT, energy and wage costs still bite — First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth even marked the announcement with a pint‑pulling visit to a Cardiff pub.
