USDA reports unusually large US beef export sales, raising doubts over data

The USDA stunned traders by reporting a huge spike in U.S. beef export sales — a marketing‑year high of 126,062 metric tons for the week ended June 25 — that many found implausible.
The agency said much of the volume was reported late (held over several reports) and data-entry errors (kg vs. metric tons) were suspected, though USDA says it verified quantities with an exporter.
With U.S. beef supplies tight and prices already at record highs, a real surge in exports could push domestic beef costs even higher during the summer grilling season.
