J&J reaches sweeping talc deal that could end decade of litigation

Johnson & Johnson agreed to pay about $5.5 billion to resolve roughly 76,000 talc-related ovarian cancer claims after a decade-long legal battle.
The deal needs 95% claimant approval, could end up costing J&J $7 billion+ depending on participation, and speeds payouts into 2027–28.
J&J denies its talc caused cancer, stopped selling talc baby powder in the U.S. in 2020, and the settlement covers only existing claims (not future ones).
