Rare Roman ring found in field will go on display

A hobby metal detectorist discovered an "extraordinary" Roman gold ring with an engraved gemstone and a hoard of coins near Ilminster, Somerset in 2018.
The heavy, intricately worked Ilminster Ring is nationally significant—Roman gold is rare for the period (c. 286–296 AD) and helps illuminate local unrest then.
South West Heritage Trust raised £78,010 to acquire and conserve the ring; it will go on display at The Museum of Somerset in Taunton.
