'Cheeky' pigs restore heathland on island reserve
- Two woolly Mangalitsa-cross pigs — described as curious and “slightly cheeky” — have been introduced to Brownsea Island to help manage bracken.
- By foraging and rooting they naturally turn the soil, reducing bracken cover and creating space for a greater diversity of plants and wildlife.
- The pair, loaned from Salt Pig farm, are settling into Dorset Wildlife Trust’s reserve on Brownsea Island in the Purbeck National Nature Reserve.
