Canada and Germany make liquefied natural gas deal as Carney looks to diversify from US

Canada will export up to 1 million metric tons/year of LNG to Germany from the planned Ksi Lisims terminal on British Columbia’s Pearse Island.
The off-take deal with Germany’s SEFE could help push the $10‑billion Ksi Lisims project forward and fits Ottawa’s goal to grow non‑U.S. trade.
SEFE is the former German Gazprom unit nationalized in 2022, highlighting Europe’s push to diversify away from Russian gas.
