Ohio State University reaches $100 million settlement with nearly 300 sex abuse survivors

Ohio State agreed to a $100 million settlement with 279 former students (nearly 300) over allegations they were sexually abused by campus doctor Richard Strauss; the university board ratified the deal.
The abuse is said to have occurred from 1978 to 1998; Strauss, who killed himself in 2005, was later found in a 2019 investigation to have harmed at least 177 men while staff failed to act.
The payout is part of broader litigation involving over 300 survivors and earlier settlements, with mediation and confidentiality terms still ongoing.
