St. Louis Cardinals Promote From Within For New General Manager

The St. Louis Cardinals promoted 34-year-old Rob Cerfolio to general manager; he was the club’s assistant GM overseeing player development and will report to Chaim Bloom.
Cerfolio is credited with advancing the Cardinals’ player development and performance groups and fueling a youth movement led by Jordan Walker and JJ Wetherholt; he previously rose through the Cleveland Guardians’ system.
The move comes after longtime executive Randy Flores left and as the Cardinals try to rebound from a 77–85 season and a fourth straight year missing the playoffs.
