Whistleblowers and postal officials warn a single barcode or scanning error could void or delay entire bulk mailings, threatening mail-centric places like Washington, Oregon and large counties such as Maricopa.
Critics say the move politicizes the Postal Service—undermining its Benjamin Franklin–era neutrality and the bipartisan 1970 reform—and even gives the administration technical and administrative levers (like withholding delivery) to restrict mail voting.
