Typhoon Bavi takes aim at China as Taiwan's capital shuts schools

Typhoon Bavi (about 155 kph) is moving toward China’s east coast, expected to pass north of Taiwan and then make landfall near the Fujian–Zhejiang border; Taipei closed schools and many flights and ferries were canceled.
More than 17,000 people have been evacuated and about 170,000 rescue workers put on standby as ports and fishing boats are pulled back and services suspended.
The typhoon comes after a deadly week of storms—flooding and a dam breach in Guangxi and tornadoes in Hubei killed about 50 people—and a separate landslide in Gansu killed 21.
