Meta disregarded its own research on teen harm, Tennessee tells jury

Tennessee prosecutors say Meta ignored its own research showing Instagram can drive teen addiction, eating disorders and self-harm, accusing the company of keeping features that maximize ad views.
In court the state even played the familiar notification “ding” and cited a 2017 internal memo calling autoplay/notifications/infinite scroll “at odds with well‑being”; it wants fines and ordered changes if Meta is found liable.
Meta says it’s transparent and working to fix problems, but the case is one of many nationwide — a New Mexico jury already hit Meta with a $375 million verdict earlier this year.
