Pope Leo XIV’s flight home from Spain was grounded so the king came to his aid

Pope Leo XIV’s return flight was grounded by an engine problem, so King Felipe VI personally offered his private jet and escorted the pope onto it.
The switch caused a more-than-three-hour delay and was the first time in decades a papal flight had to change planes for such a serious technical issue.
The trip — to Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands — included inaugurating the new Sagrada Familia tower and pressing the pope’s message on migration.
