Breakthrough ovarian cancer drug offers patients more time and better quality of life
- NHS now offers mirvetuximab soravtansine for hard-to-treat ovarian cancer — the first major new option in 20 years, extending average survival from about 12.8 to 16.5 months.
- It’s a targeted “Trojan horse” therapy that delivers chemo straight to cancer cells, meaning fewer side effects so patients often keep their hair and can get back to everyday life.
- NICE has approved it and NHS England will fund treatment for around 400 patients a year in England (Wales/Northern Ireland usually follow; Scotland decides separately).
