Typhoon Bavi made landfall in Taizhou after hitting southern Japan and brushing northern Taiwan — nearly 2 million people were evacuated as the storm, with Category‑1 winds, carried rain bands roughly the size of France.
Taiwan largely shut down: more than 14,000 people were evacuated, most cities declared a typhoon holiday, about 920 international flights and all domestic flights were canceled, and high‑speed rail ran reduced service.
