Sherpa guide missing for a week on Mount Everest rescued while crawling to base camp

Miraculously, 52-year-old Sherpa guide Dawa Sherpa was found crawling near the Khumbu Icefall a week after going missing and was reunited with a family that had already begun funeral rituals.
He was spotted by a Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee cleanup team as the route was being dismantled, given food and water, and helicoptered to HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu.
The rescue came at the end of a record-busy Everest season—more than 1,000 climbers—which underscores the hazards when routes are taken down.
