FDA assigns highest-risk Class I status for recall of nearly 1.6 million cartons of eggs

The FDA labeled Midwest Poultry Services’ egg recall as Class I — about 1.59 million cartons potentially contaminated with salmonella enteritidis (produced June 6–July 3, sell-by July 20–Aug 17).
The Texas-produced eggs were shipped across the South/Southwest (including Kroger and Brookshire Grocery stores); consumers are urged not to eat them and to return for a refund.
No illnesses reported as of late July; salmonella symptoms usually appear 6 hours–6 days after exposure (diarrhea, fever, vomiting)—seek medical care if symptoms are severe or you’re in a high-risk group.
