Mourners greet Khamenei funeral procession in Iraq as US, Iran trade strikes

Thousands gathered in Najaf for funeral processions for Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with prayers at the Shrine of Imam Ali and the coffin driven through holy cities before returning to Iran.
Mourners lined the route waving Iranian and Iraqi flags (and militia banners), carrying Khamenei portraits and chanting “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”
His death in Feb. U.S.-Israeli airstrikes has fueled the war; recent U.S.-Iran strikes and President Trump’s comment that an interim agreement is “over” have raised fears of further escalation.
