Yankees Place Ryan McMahon On 10-Day IL As Max Fried Gets Closer To Return

Yankees third baseman Ryan McMahon was placed on the 10-day IL with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain but says no surgery is likely and he expects to miss only the minimum time.
Max Schuemann was called up to take McMahon’s roster spot, though his stay may be short if Cody Bellinger finishes his rehab and returns this weekend.
Lefty Fried is also on the IL but progressing — he’s throwing a side session and could be back when eligible next week after posting a 2.81 ERA this season.
