Water rationing begins in Puerto Rico amid drought crisis: "It's brutal"

Hundreds of thousands in San Juan and nearby towns are under water rationing — about 180,000+ customer accounts will alternate 48–72 hours without water, with residents filling jugs and older people especially struggling.
Puerto Rico just experienced its driest July in more than 120 years and large parts of the island are in severe drought, so officials warn it could take many storms and winter rains to recover.
The crisis is worsened by aging infrastructure and leaks (roughly 65% of produced water is lost), and the island has faced similar rationing in 2015 and 2020.
