Burkina Faso cuts diplomatic relations with France, once a key ally

Burkina Faso’s military junta abruptly cut diplomatic ties with France, accusing it of “neo-colonial” meddling and support for subversive networks.
France called the move hostile and unfounded, is reviewing reciprocal measures, and is monitoring the safety of its citizens and embassy staff.
The split follows a 2022 coup, expulsion of French forces and diplomats, and comes amid worsening extremist violence and allegations of large-scale civilian killings.
