Five European nations seek deals to send migrants out of the EU

Five European countries (Germany, Austria, Greece, Denmark and the Netherlands) plan to sign deals this year to send migrants without legal residency to "return hubs" in non‑EU countries.
The group hopes to finalize arrangements soon — reconvening end of September and with Denmark saying it could start transfers by the end of 2027.
Human rights groups and the Council of Europe warn the hubs risk rights violations and may not stop dangerous migration routes, with critics urging implementation of the EU Pact on Migration instead.
