China asks Thailand to deport Chinese journalist, rights groups warn of persecution

China has asked Thailand to extradite journalist Bai Zhaodong, who exposed alleged corruption involving Chinese officials.
Rights groups warn Bai faces political persecution, torture and enforced disappearance if returned, and have urged Thailand not to deport him.
Bai has been detained at a Bangkok immigration centre since January, and Beijing's extradition request arrives as Thailand's prime minister visits China.
