Ebola outbreak zone cases up almost 40 percent in a week

Deadly, fast-moving outbreak in eastern Congo: about 894 confirmed cases and 200+ deaths in the first month, spreading across 32 health zones and into Uganda — already worse at this stage than Uganda’s 2000 outbreak.
Response is hampered by conflict and mass displacement in Ituri (over 90% of cases), making contact tracing nearly impossible — only ~4,000 contacts identified versus an estimated 17,000–35,000 needed.
The strain (Bundibugyo) has no approved vaccine or proven treatment yet; experimental therapies are being developed while severe funding and staffing gaps (84 deployed of 540 needed; $90M released of $900M pledged) slow efforts.
