American automakers urge Congress to ban Chinese vehicle sales in U.S.

A U.S. automaker trade group is urging Congress to permanently ban the sale, import and manufacture of Chinese vehicles, hardware and software over alleged unfair trade practices and intellectual property theft.
The group warns Chinese automakers — especially EV makers like BYD — are rapidly gaining market share worldwide and putting U.S. manufacturers at a disadvantage.
Officials say Chinese-connected cars could collect and transmit sensitive vehicle and consumer data to the Chinese government, and they’re pressing for a quick legislative ban.
