A year after a disastrous maiden launch, North Korea's new destroyer is up and firing its guns
- North Korea’s 5,000-ton destroyer Kang Kon fired its main gun, autocannon and vertically launched cruise missiles in at-sea weapons tests — state media called some missiles “strategic” (nuclear-capable).
- The ship suffered a disastrous, partly capsized launch last May, was repaired and relaunched, and Kim Jong Un has ordered it readied for active duty within two months.
- The Kang Kon is the second Choe Hyon–class destroyer and part of Kim’s broader push to expand a nuclear-capable navy, with more large warships and missile submarines in development.
