Phillies President Dave Dombrowski Stresses Trea Turner 'Has To Be Better'

Phillies president Dave Dombrowski publicly told Trea Turner he must improve at shortstop after a poor defensive 2026 (-17 DRS) and said Turner “has to show it” heading into 2027.
Turner posted career-worst offensive numbers in 2026 (.242/.297/.378, 19 HR, 58 RBI, 21 SB, 81 OPS+, -0.1 WAR), a steep drop from his NL batting title year in 2025.
The Phillies promoted Don Mattingly to full-time manager on a two-year deal after he went 79-55 when taking over midseason; Philadelphia still hasn’t advanced past the NLDS since 2023.
