South China Sea joint statement says China's maritime claims have no basis

A joint statement by the US, Japan, the Philippines and 11 other countries on the 10th anniversary of the 2016 tribunal ruling reaffirmed that China's expansive South China Sea claims have no legal basis.
The Philippines says it has faced a series of maritime confrontations and "dangerous manoeuvres" by China inside its exclusive economic zone.
China strongly rejected the ruling as "waste paper," blamed outside military activity for tensions, and summoned Japan's embassy official in protest.
