Drowned student waited 20 minutes for help in river

19-year-old University of York student Evan d'Andilly entered the River Ouse after a night out and, despite shouting for help and trying to stay afloat for about 20 minutes, later drowned.
CCTV showed police on the bank attempting to assist, but both volunteer and fire-service rescue boats were notified after he entered the water and arrived too late, raising questions about response times.
His family called him a "water baby" and said he had been improving with his mental health; the inquest into his death is ongoing.
