Northern China braces for heavy rains as Bavi nears

Typhoon Bavi, described as one of the strongest in years, is heading for landfall near Wenzhou and is pushing heavy rain far north.
Northern areas from Beijing to Liaoning are preparing — about 100,000 people were evacuated in Beijing and parks, tourist sites and tutoring centers have been closed.
Authorities are releasing more water from reservoirs (Miyun raised outflows) to free space for flood control.
