Israel moves to formally recognize Armenian WWI deaths as a genocide

Israel’s Cabinet unanimously approved a proposal to recognize the World War I-era mass killings of Armenians as a genocide; the measure still needs a Knesset vote.
The move highlights worsening Israel–Turkey relations, since Turkey has long lobbied against official genocide recognition.
If approved, Israel would join about 32 countries (including the U.S.) that officially call the 1915 killings a genocide.
