Nero’s Bridge emerges from Tiber River as Rome faces water crisis

Remains of an ancient bridge — dubbed “Nero’s Bridge” — have surfaced in the Tiber near St. Peter’s after weeks of little rain, making for a striking sight by the Vatican.
The structure is linked to Nero’s era but likely dates to Caligula (around 39 AD) and sits near the spot tied to the Apostle Peter’s martyrdom, so it’s a neat bit of Roman history.
The Tiber’s flow is about half the normal July average, and officials warn Rome is facing a significant water crisis tied to prolonged dry spells.
