Kennedy advisers propose doubling US autism spending on care, family support

A federal advisory panel is urging nearly doubling U.S. autism funding to about $747 million a year to expand research and services.
The plan emphasizes better medical care, housing, aging supports and long-term services—with special focus on people with “profound” autism who need high levels of care.
It highlights rising prevalence (about 1 in 31 eight‑year‑olds in 2022) and calls for, among other things, the first federal estimate of autistic adults and more supports for families and caregivers.
