Democratic Taiwan must not become 'China's Taiwan', president says

President Lai urged DPP members to unite and resist Beijing’s "red terror," calling for vigilance to protect Taiwan's democracy.
He warned China's new "ethnic unity" law could be used as a legal pretext to target Taiwanese abroad, alarming Taipei.
Lai reiterated Taiwan is already an independent country (the Republic of China) and said its future must be decided by its 23 million people.
