'Our murdered girls brought us together - now we're changing the law'

Two mothers, Carole Gould and Julie Devey, bonded after their teenage daughters were killed by ex‑boyfriends and set up the campaign group Killed Women to push for tougher domestic homicide sentencing.
After a seven‑year fight meeting ministers and judges, Justice Secretary David Lammy has proposed raising the minimum starting sentence for murdering a current or former partner from 15 to 25 years (subject to consultation).
The women say the change would have lengthened the sentences in their daughters’ cases and hope the reform brings stronger protection for other families while they continue to grieve.
