Thousands of Czechs rally against a government plan to overhaul the funding of public broadcasters

Thousands rallied in Prague (and in regional capitals) to back public broadcasters and to protest a warning strike planned by media staff.
The government wants to shift TV/radio funding from license fees to the state budget next year, proposing about a 15% cut that could force hundreds of layoffs.
Critics say the change would threaten media independence — protesters argued “the media don’t belong to politicians” and compared the move to developments in Slovakia and Hungary.
