Somali referee for World Cup is denied entry into the United States

Somali World Cup referee Omar Artan — the only referee from Somalia at the tournament — was denied entry to the U.S. after arriving in Miami; U.S. Customs and Border Protection cited “vetting concerns.”
CBP said the traveler underwent additional, routine inspection and was subsequently determined inadmissible.
The agency emphasized that athletes, coaches and staff are all subject to inspection and that admissibility is decided case-by-case using law enforcement, national security and immigration information.
