El-Sayed apologizes for comments he made responding to an attack on a Michigan synagogue

Abdul El-Sayed apologized to Michigan’s Jewish Democratic Caucus, saying his earlier remarks after a synagogue attack were misconstrued and that he didn’t mean to justify violence.
The apology follows backlash over his “hurt people hurt people” comment after a March attack on a Detroit-area synagogue, when the attacker later died by suicide.
El-Sayed is trying to unify Democrats after a bitter primary and now faces Republican Mike Rogers in a Senate race that could help determine control of the chamber.
