Congo’s Ebola outbreak spreads to new health zone

Ebola has reached Tchomia, a lakeside town near Bunia, bringing the outbreak to 26 affected health zones (18 in Ituri) as it continues to spread.
Authorities reported 37 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths in 24 hours; the outbreak totals about 635 confirmed cases and 127 deaths across three eastern provinces.
The epidemic is caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain, which has no approved vaccine or specific treatment; new treatment centres have just been opened in Bunia and Rwampara.
