- Rays manager Kevin Cash surprised by naming Nick Martinez to start Game 1 at American Family Field instead of Drew Rasmussen.
- Rasmussen has dominated this postseason (1.29 ERA) but gets extra rest — the move also opens the door for Rasmussen or Freddy Peralta to start Game 3 at Tropicana Field (Peralta has a strong 2.62 home ERA).
- Martinez has been excellent on the road (2.38 ERA in 16 road starts this year); Game 1 coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET on FOX.
