Chad's president pardons main rival and opposition leader in jail

Chad's president pardoned opposition leader Succes Masra, who had been jailed for more than a year on charges critics called politically motivated.
Masra — a former prime minister and a leading opposition voice — will be freed in the coming days along with eight other political figures.
The pardon allows their release but does not cancel civil penalties, including Masra's 20‑year sentence fine of 1 billion CFA francs, which remain enforceable.
