Bulgaria to ask parliament to allow US tanker aircraft to be stationed at military base

Bulgaria will ask parliament to approve stationing up to eight U.S. tanker aircraft at the Bezmer military base after an earlier plan to base them at Sofia’s civilian airport sparked controversy.
The tankers are meant to support U.S. operations in the Middle East amid rising tensions and strikes involving the U.S. and Iran.
The move keeps the aircraft away from the capital (Bezmer is about 260 km southeast of Sofia) and highlights Bulgaria’s role as a NATO/EU member working with allies.
