Mexican border shelters empty as Trump crackdown deters migrants heading north

Shelters along Mexico's northern border, especially in Ciudad Juarez, are largely empty as fewer migrants try to enter the U.S. after an immigration crackdown and the end of the CBP One app.
Many families who once planned to cross are now staying and putting down roots in border cities rather than risking smugglers or deportation; overall shelter numbers and occupancy have fallen sharply.
The people still in shelters are mainly Mexicans displaced by violence and migrants from Venezuela, Colombia and Central America.
