EU and US concerned by China's new ethnic unity law which targets people overseas

China has enacted a new "ethnic unity" law that allows Beijing to hold people and groups outside its borders legally accountable for "undermining ethnic unity," raising concerns about extraterritorial reach.
The EU and U.S. warned the law could enable transnational repression, limit minority cultural and religious rights, and said they will oppose extraterritorial enforcement and protect people on their soil.
Taiwan and rights groups are alarmed it could be used to target dissidents and diaspora communities (notably Uyghurs and Tibetans) and to pressure Taiwanese abroad.
